If we walk through Córdoba and decide to stop at a kiosk to check the morning news, it is possible that we will find a work of art on the cover of a newspaper in the region. However, this will only be possible if we walk through Córdoba, Argentina. Because there, every week, our ArtistTo this summer's La Estación, Pito Campos, an Argentine watercolourist, publishes an illustration made on the front page of the newspaper the new morning.
Pito Campos is a artistA painter, watercolorist, Argentine illustrator and humorist, self-taught, who lives by and for his passion, drawing and mainly the watercolor technique. As a result, he treats landscapes, caricatured portraits of famous people, anonymous people, and illustrations of various kinds. In addition, Pito stands out for the work he does in the newspaper where every week he exhibits a watercolor focused on a current issue. Probably few newspapers do as much to promote art and watercolor.
Our artistDuring this summer season, by the way, winter in Argentina, he conducts face-to-face and online workshops. He is certainly an active user of social networks. You can also find it on the online learning platform Domestika, where he has already published 3 courses on beginning and perfecting the watercolor technique, especially urban landscapes. Moreover, a few years ago he promoted a face-to-face master class on watercolor, inviting the Uruguayan master of the technique and one of his referents, Alvaro Castagnett.
Finally, browsing, we have found a nice portrait of our artistto of the season of this summer 2022, painted by the artistto peruvian Elis Omar Salas. We leave you the link to his instagram, @ salaselis0.
I approach my art in a transversal way: my art is my life and my life is my art. The presence of watercolor is absolutely fundamental, it is the pillar, my voice that speaks or is silent through the water. I find in its capabilities the way I like to express myself, but it is also the way I like to see the world.
I go a little beyond the purely technical side, I feel that I am in his philosophy. Because watercolor is not only the expression of images and their representation, but also has aspects that are very much its own and it is with that nature that I feel a deep connection that goes beyond purely aesthetic issues.
Watercolor is absolutely fundamental, it is the pillar, my voice that speaks or is silent through the water.
The water that is released and builds things freely, the multiple states of the paper-pigment-water relationship that generate a random, surprising and completely unique combination, the stain that says little but expresses so much, the heterogeneity that it allows and that results of an inexhaustible richness, are some of the characteristics that make me feel identified and enraptured by this technique. If we let it be, the watercolor happens and there is magic in that.
