Rigid supports, boards & panels

Wooden boards and canvas panels.

Throughout art history, many major works were created on rigid supports, valued for stability and precision. Painting on wood is not new — the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci was painted on panel. Today a rigid support still offers a very pleasant painting experience, with more control and a precise colour response.

At Phoenix Arts we make boards and canvas panels for artists who want a stable, reliable support. Work directly on a rigid surface or on canvas mounted on a solid base — an alternative to the traditional stretcher, especially for detail, thin layers or mixed media.

The Tavola line is natural wood, light and stable, with a side structure that adds volume. Available in 2 cm and 4.2 cm depths, you can work on the wood or apply Phoenix universal primer.

The range also includes canvas panels on 3 mm MDF, stronger than traditional cardboard panels: 100% cotton, Star cotton with universal primer, cotton with black gesso, unprimed natural linen and absorbent panels for watercolour, plus uncanvased MDF if you prefer to prepare your own.
